ACT UP Wisconsin | AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power

In all my years as an AIDS activist and person living with AIDS, I’ve never witnessed such repulsive and childlike behavior as what I’ve witnessed in Madison since the inception of Wisconsin HIV and ACT UP Wisconsin. Publicly labeling my good friend and colleague, Greg Milward, as crazy and having mental health problems is absolutely unconscionable. Not only is it a violation of the highest nature, but also it is absolutely deplorable, and we guarantee that this matter will be dealt with appropriately. Never have I met a man, with supposed “mental health problems”, turn out such truth and with such wisdom, conviction and courage. By libeling Greg Milward as crazy, AIDS Network, Mark Pocan and any other supporters who choose to jump on this bandwagon; you have deemed all of ACT UP Wisconsin as crazy. I personally take it as a compliment! Members of our coalition stand as determined as ever, and we will never ever be silenced in our efforts to expose the facts about a plummeting agency that refuses to deal with us. Mind you, this is an agency that continues to hide the facts about the Wisconsin AIDS Ride (ACT Rides), further stigmatizes the HIV/AIDS community in Madison for speaking our truth -- and we’re the crazy ones? By deeming us crazy and embittered and spreading further lies about us, they continue to run from the truth and avoid having to tackle the grave issues-at-hand. Why does having to face Mr. Milward scare you so? Get it out in the open and stop this paltry behavior! Here’s to the crazy ones -- DEAL WITH US!

~ Bob Bowers

For more than a year and a half many of us have questioned the veracity of AIDS Network’s boisterous claims that the ACT Ride returns 87% – 90% of its donations to support AIDS Network client and prevention services. Last year they proclaimed it loud and clear in their marketing of the Ride. Here is their precise statement, as well as the facts...

In the early years, ACT UP thrived on the fact that we were literally fighting for our lives. In 2010 with over 1 million of our Brothers and Sisters in the United States living with HIV and over 33 million on planet earth, I humbly ask you, are we not still fighting for our lives? AIDS is a scourge of pandemic proportions! If we don’t continue ACTing UP, who will? As the saying goes, “AIDS isn’t over until it’s over!”
